Cathryn Law
Director for China, Development and Market Access (CDMA) in the Department for Business and Trade
Cathryn Law is the Director for China, Development and Market Access (CDMA) in the Department for Business and Trade. A central part of her role is overseeing the Department's overall strategy and engagement with China, including dialogues – such as JETCO and the ICD. She also oversees the Department's global market access programme, including the recently announced Ricardo Fund.
Prior to this, Cathryn was Director of International Strategy and Trade Relations Directorate, responsible for driving economic growth by capitalising on opportunities to open up and protect overseas markets for UK businesses.
Cathryn joined DBT in October 2016 as Deputy Director of the EU Trade Policy team.
Previously, she was in BIS as Head of International Science and Innovation – including setting up and overseeing the Newton Fund. Her other trade experiences include 5 years in UKTI, heading the China desk and then Asia more widely, 6 months in the High Commission in Kuala Lumpur covering the oil and gas sector and 2 years in DFID heading up the Trade and Development Policy Team.
