Chris joined HSBC Continental Europe in 2019, moving from HSBC Bank plc London (“HBEU”) to lead the integration of the EEA element of the HBEU network into HSBC France in the run up to Brexit. Chris had previously led and developed the 18 markets of HBEU, international network since 2013, as CEO International, HBEU. With the integration now complete, Chris’ principal focus as Deputy CEO is on steering the substantial transformation activity of HSBC Continental Europe.
Prior to his HBEU International role, Chris was Deputy CEO HSBC China, based in Shanghai, where he also held a Board position. In addition to leading a wide range of businesses and functions, Chris led the major expansion of the Group into Guangdong Province, now a key element in the Group’s Greater Bay activities.
From 2004 to 2010, Chris led and developed firstly GB Americas (North and Latin America), and then for 4 years was Head of CMB North America, where he led the exit from a JV with Wells Fargo and the subsequent pan USA expansion of CMB.
Chris joined the HSBC Group in 1985 and other prior rôles of note include Credit and Banking Services Director, First Direct (the Group’s UK direct bank), and Director, Leveraged Finance in New York.
Chris was appointed a Group General Manager in 2017.
Chris was educated at the University of Oxford (M.A. Modern Languages) (1985) and CEDEP (INSEAD) where he undertook the General Management Program (1998).
Chris is married to Charlene with 2 children: William aged 13 and Elizabeth aged 11 and is based in Paris.
